Programs for Children
Children’s Time
About 15 to 20 minutes into worship, our church has A Time for Children. Each Sunday, one of the church staff calls the children forward and shares a story or experience with them. Children age 3 through 5th grade are encouraged to come forward for Children’s time.
Sunday School
Sunday School for children age 3 years through 5th grade takes place during the worship service on Sunday mornings. Following a Time for Children, children age 3 through 5th grade are dismissed downstairs to Sunday School. The children are divided into 2 classes – one class for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and first grade and another class for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Both classes teach the same stories, but vary according to skill level. The classes usually consist of a main lesson, followed by a craft and a game. As Sunday School teachers, we hope the children have a fun and learn something about the Bible at the same time! After the worship service is over, children stay in the classroom until a family member comes to get them.
The Sunday School teachers use the We Believe curriculum.
Different Options for Children to Stay Entertained During the Worship Service
Nursery - Our church provides a nursery service for children ages 0-3 downstairs in our nursery room. Our nursery is staffed during Adult Sunday School time (8:30 or 9 am – depends on the class), as well as during worship service. Our nursery staff asks that children be signed in as they are dropped off and also to be informed of any special needs your child/children may have (allergies, special diaper bag, etc.). Nursery services are sometimes provided for other events at the church, when necessary.
Worship bags – Our church has worship activity bags available for children to use for entertainment during worship. The activity bags are available in the Narthex. We ask that you please return the bags to the Narthex at the end of the worship service.
Summer Children’s Church – Children’s Church is also provided for children age 3 through 4th grade throughout the summer months. Summer Children’s Church will take place at the same time as regular Children’s Sunday School. Instead of being divided into two groups, children will all be in one class. The classes will again usually consist of a main lesson, followed by a craft and/or a game. Summer Children’s Church usually begins at the end of May and continues until the first part of September.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer in July, First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell hosts a week-long Vacation Bible School/Day Camp. Our VBS/Day Camp takes place at Glacier Presbyterian Center, a lake-front lodge on beautiful Flathead Lake. It is open to the public and the best part is that it’s completely FREE!
While at camp, your children will have the opportunity to boat, swim, build campfires for cookouts, go mountain biking, do a challenge course, participate in group games, Bible study and arts & crafts.
VBS/Day Camp is open to children entering grades 1 - 6. Transportation is provided from the church parking lot each morning at 8:30 am. Campers are returned to First Presbyterian at 4:30 pm.
