Glacier Camp has been a ministry of the church for over 80 years. Over the years the camp has served thousands of youth and adults in this ministry. Glacier Camp & Conference Center is a mission of Glacier Presbytery. Glacier Presbytery is a presbytery of the Synod of the Rocky Mountains, a synod of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell uses Glacier Camp for many functions. Every summer in July, First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell hosts a week-long Vacation Bible School/Day Camp. The VBS/Day Camp takes place at Glacier Presbyterian Center, a lake-front lodge on beautiful Flathead Lake. It is open to the public and has no attendance fees. While at camp, children have the opportunity to boat, swim, build campfires for cookouts, go mountain biking, do a challenge course, participate in group games, Bible study and arts & crafts. VBS/Day Camp is open to children entering grades 1 - 6. Transportation is provided from the church parking lot each morning at 8:30 a.m. Campers are returned to First Presbyterian Church at 4:30 p.m.
During August, church services are jointly held at the Glacier
Conference Center with Whitefish First Presbyterian Church and Dayton
First Presbyterian Church.
The Presbyterian Women and Youth Group from First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell use the Glacier Camp & Conference Center for retreats.
Glenn Burfeind, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell, is chairperson of the camp board. Other members of the board are representatives from other Presbyterian churches in the Glacier Presbytery.
Glacier Camp & Conference Center is a resource that is used for many events, including weddings, family reunions, summer camps, retreats, and conferences. While Glacier Camp & Conference Center serves the churches of the Presbyterian Church, USA, its mission includes programs and services for virtually any and every individual and group.
Because of the proximity of First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell to the Glacier Camp & Conference Center, its members provide many volunteer services to the camp in order to minimize expenses. Every year in the spring, the Presbyterian Men from the church schedule a Saturday work day at the camp in order to perform maintenance and help prepare the camp for the summer season. Volunteers from the church also assist in providing housekeeping services to Spruce Lodge between events, offering quick turnaround of the rooms for the next group using the facilities. Other volunteers provide individual skills and services to the camp as their time permits.
If you are interested in providing volunteer services to the camp, please contact Karen Heuscher at 752-7014.
