Stewardship

“But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” Eph. 4:7

What is Stewardship?

We are judged by what we do, and only in doing can we give example. Christians practice stewardship by sharing their God-given time, talents, and money, as an act of thanks to God for all his gifts to them.

Sharing Your Time and Talents

  • Stewardship is about making choices, as individuals and in community. It is more than giving money to the church.
  • Stewardship is about being faithful disciples, caring for and managing all that God has given us.
  • Stewardship is not just one part of Christian discipleship; it involves every aspect of life in all the stages of life.
  • Stewardship is the grateful response to God's grace and goodness. It requires a consideration of how our choices affect us and others, of how we can be good caretakers of the created world, and of how we can best serve God as disciples of Christ.

Sharing Your Finances

Ministry Budget

In gratitude for God’s love in Jesus Christ, members are encouraged to make an annual financial commitment to support the mission of the church through our Congregation, Presbytery, Synod and General  Assembly. This regular offering can be given weekly, monthly, or at other intervals during the year. Members submit their pledge cards annually and receive weekly offering envelopes for convenience. Gifts to the ministry budget provide the primary source of funding for day-to-day ministry and operational costs.

Per Capita

In 1857 the General Assembly saw a need to fund travel expenses so that commissioners could attend the meeting.  It was originally called the Plan of Mileage, but now it is known as the per capita.

The assessment is divided among the three administrative bodies within our denomination:  the Presbytery of Glacier, Synod of the Rockies and General Assembly.  Each entity sets a budget for its administrative expenses and then apportions the dollar amount by calculating the membership of each church.  The “bill” is then forwarded to the individual churches.  First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell receives an invoice and forwards the payment to the Presbytery of Glacier.  Eventually a separate payment is made to the Synod and one to General Assembly for their shares.

This year the assessment is set at $36.00, broken down as follows:  $6.50 to General Assembly, $6.45 to Synod of the Rockies and the remainder to Presbytery of Glacier.  This is the chief source of funding for the programs within our presbytery.

Please consider a separate contribution of $36.00 to pay a share of administration costs – freeing more dollars for mission and outreach within our church.
