The FPC Youth Group is an active group of young people ages 11-18 led by
our associate pastor and youth worker. Meeting every Wednesday night
from 6:00-7:30 PM, the group shares a meal, discusses issues of living out
one’s faith, and has a great time with various fun filled activities.
Both church members and youth who do not regularly come to our church
attend. Activities have included paint ball, dodge-ball, various fun (and
silly) games, singing Christmas carols and ministering to shut-ins and
nursing home residents, making care packages for servicemen overseas,
and providing a Halloween party for children of our community.
Every year our FPC Youth group goes on a mission trip to serve God in the world and to provide wonderful and unique ministry opportunities to the youth in our congregation. In 2011 our youth group traveled to Susanville, California, from July 9th through July 17th to participate in the Sierra Service Project. This project was sponsored by the Methodist Church and was designed to help repair, rebuild and winterize homes on Indian reservations throughout the Sierra-Nevada mountain range. To listen to a report about this mission trip by Chad Jones and Lisa Carlson, click here.
In 2010, the youth group traveled to Minnesota to participate in other service projects.
A wintertime youth ski retreat provides an opportunity for fellowship, learning, and carving turns in powder.
Serving as waiters and waitresses at the annual Valentine Day dinner has been a fun way for the youth to serve and interact with “more mature” members of the congregation.
Leading the annual Youth Sunday worship
service and participating in music and drama at other services helps
integrate the youth into the worship life of the church. The Youth Group
is a vital, energetic, and ever changing part of First Presbyterian
Church.
First Presbyterian Church expects that at some time around the Junior High to early High School age, the youth (and/or their parents) will be interested in joining our Church as members. Therefore, we provide a confirmation class to provide the information about what it means to become a member and what the responsibilities are for both the Church and the new member. Various classes study the basic understanding of Christian belief and reformed tradition, structure of the Presbyterian Church (USA), and the mission and ministry programs of FPC, Kalispell.
Classes take place over a period of a few weeks and when completed, will offer the young person the option of becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church.
